Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A - Battery wont stay charged
1991 MR2 just bought the car been driving the car for a month or so when driving it the car died lose almost all power. Tryed to jump and wouldn't stay runnning so i went and got a portable battery charger stared it and drove for about ten mins finily drained charger and died. So go home took off the alternater and had it testest. Testest good so put back on and charged battery. Started and ran or min and battery volt went down evenchly died. Alternater has 160,000 mile on it butt test good could it be bad Im stumped plzzzzzzzz someone safe m MR2 - Fix/Recommendation

I had this same problem with my mk1 and all the problem was is that the belt wasent tight enough there should be a bolt that slides so you can tighten the bolt on the alternator to hold it in place but this should also tighten the belt

Make sure the Battery connectors are tight on the poles they have been known to come loose due to vibration. Is there a secret to getting the altenator out of the engine compartment? I can get it off but not out of the engine compartment. Im doing it from the bottom.

to get the alternator out of the engine compartment you need to undo the 5 bolts and the bracket under it then tilt it to the side and jiggle. It will come out that way with a bit of wiggling :)

For some reason the charging system is linked into the engine cooling fan ECU. I had a similar problem a few years ago which was resolved when I replace the cooling fan ECU located in the boot behind the carpet.
