| Battery | | Toyota MR2 MK1 N/A - Battery draining | | Hi there,
When I went to look at my car, everything seemed fine, it had just had a brand new battery fitted in, however, when you rested your foot on the accelerator the alternator light came on and so did a light which had a picture of an engine with a fan infront. When you pushed the accelerator slightly more they turned off again. The car had no problem starting so I promptly bought it. When it was driving back I noticed the drivers side headlight was dim, but thought it could just be a bulb.
Went to start the car up the next day and the car had no power at all, checked the battery and it was giving 4 vaults or so, put another battery in, the car started and the battery was giving 12v when the car was running it was giving 14v, thinking that prooved it was charging. I figured it was a bad battery so I got it swapped and put the new one in. That night I noticed the dirvers side headlamp was flickering slightly, but I hoped it would go away (bad thing to do), last night the drivers side headlamp was so dim it looked like it wasn't on at all, and I checked it after I parked up, it was totally off. Went to start my car this morning and the car has no power, something is draining the battery, but I have NO idea where to even begin looking. Any ideas guys? |

| Battery | | Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A - Battery ? Regulator ? Alternator ? | | After returning to my car after work everything seemed ok. It started first time and everything.
But whilst i was driving home i noticed the battery guage decreasing, the battery light appeared and the sterio was cutting out.
This was really annoying and right away i could see my battery was draining by the second, unless i kept the revs high.
1st and 2nd gear was the worset but once i was in 4th gear doin 30mph+ the battery guage increased to normal.
Luckly i returned home ok, but the minute i turned the car off i tried to start it instanly but the battery was dead.
Immediately the Alternator sprung to mind, so i tested this by leaving the interior light on, started the car car with a mobile jump start kit then disconnected it. Then when appyied revs the interior light did brighten.
Im totally stuck, i dnt wonna go out and buy a battery to find it flat within a week.
Any ideas and suggestions welcome.
Alternator ?????? or Regulator ?????? |
| Battery | | Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A - Battery drained | | Hi. I just gaot my MR2 MK2 a couple of days ago when i went to it this morning it wouldn't start. I had the usaul warnings on the dash and these were dimming and the stereo wouldn't turn on. Straight away i assumed this was the battery. As i went to jump start it, the smaller cable coming in along with the negative cable started smoking and burning! I immediately removed the jump cables and this stopped. Upon further investigation i realised that this smaller cable was completely burnt out, then i noticed that the battery was connected the wrong way round +ve cable to the -ve terminal on the battery! After this the car went completely dead no lights or anything! I spoke to an auto electrician and he said that if the battery was connected the wrong way round this could have affected the diodes on the alternator. Does anybody know anything about this. I'm really gutted as i've hardly driven the car! Thanks a lot for any help or info received. |

Is it the battery or the battery cables? |
