Toyota MR2 MK1 N/A - pinging, or fuel injector rattling submitted by Mark on 14/06/2007 | | My 1987 Mr2 has had an odd problem for years. The gas mileage would suddenly drop by 3-4 mpg, and I'd get what I'd describe as light pinging, but my mechanic has said is fuel injector noise. There was no regularity in the drop, sometimes for weeks, or months.
I replaced the O2 sensor(a few times), but it didn't matter. I pushed its gorilla plug together more tightly and thought that it helped sometimes. But after a gas drop a year ago, nothing has helped, and I still get that rattle.
I replaced the air mass sensor, the computer(a used one was quite cheap), and the water temp sensor. I cleaned out the egr valve and the throttle body. I made sure the throttle position sensor connection was not corroded.
Nothing has had any effect. I plan next to replace the fuel injectors with rebuilt ones.
My questions are:
1) Any suggestions on what it might be?
2) What do I need to do to remove the injectors without damaging them?(I read that you can easily damage them on installation).
Thanks,
Mark |

Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A - Engine Cutting Out submitted by Sarah McCluskey on 26/06/2004 | | I have a 1992 uk model, and have a similar problem to the one already listed. The car keeps cutting out when I am slowing down, and then will not restart for several minutes. When stationary, the rev counter goes up to about 2500 rpm for about 10 seconds, and then drops right down to below 500 and often cuts out. There is then a strong smell of petrol fumes.
