Is there an external or internal solenoid that engages/disengages? Anyone know an overview of how the OD enagages / disengages?

I have life time alignment and did wheel balancing

| Gearbox | | Toyota MR2 MK1 N/A - HELP!! gear, clutch ... headlights(???) | | I purchased a MK1 MR2 about 4months ago, and have really enjoyed the ride. However recently I noticed a sound similar to wheels screeching coming in from behind me. After consulting manual, I deduced that my brakes were at fault, and promptly had local garage check brake pads. The two at front were found to need replacing and they were. However, this hasn't cured things - infact the sound increased!! I've sat in car and tried to figure out where the sound is coming from. This is what I discovered:
1. Sound seems to be generated when at low revs in 1st through 3rd gears
2. Sound disappears after about 45mins
3. Sound not apparent when headlights off (don't know what made me check)
I'm thinking the issue lies somewhere within the gearbox. Any ideas? |

Just recently it has been displaying various gear change problems, usually only when cold.
During the first few kilometers of driving it occasionally tends to get stuck in one gear or another. Once stopped and restarted the car usually performs without fault.
I have noticed the whirring noise that used to stop once the drivers door has been open for ten seconds or so (ABS self test??)now seems to run at random while the car is being driven.
Any advise would be much appreciated.

| Gearbox | | Toyota MR2 MK2 N/A - Overdrive not working properly | | I have a g-limited mk2 automatic. it doesn't seem to engage overdrive properly! With o/d on it free wheels which i guess is normal, but when cruising at 70mph it stays at about 4000rpm (im told it should be about 2.5k rpm). im getting really poor fuel consumption because of this and is costing me a fortune (18-20mpg). i have had the transmission oil changed, full service including plugs, oil and fuel filter, engine oil, and my mechanic is still baffled!! i removed a delimiter when i bought it because it was messing with the revs, and the wheels are not standard. i get no fault codes!! please help cos i love the car but will have to think about selling if cannot fix. thanks |

My clutch is gradually getting louder and louder whenever it is not pressed in, when it is it's very quiet.
I am wanting to change the gearbox oil and fill it full of redline, but I'm a complete beginner. I've seen pictures of how to do this with the turbo, would it just be the same?? and is it likley to even be that anyway. |

No signs of loose bits when staionary and bounced, and I jacked it up today for a more in depth investigation - NOTHING. (What tolerence can I expect in teh LSD?)
I have had people tell me it could very well be the LSD, but I also had someone tellme it was the bearing, half way along the long drive shaft, which I duly had replaced. This made absolutely no difference.
The car runs with no problems, except this annoying noise. any similar experiences/remedies? |

I admit that i got on it but i did'nt take it to redline probably about 5,000 rpm. When all of a sudden boom no gears lots of fluid not sure as to what kind (oil or tranny fluid). Anyway I don't have any gears or at least it won't go into gear when I move the stick. The fluid worries me because I think its oil but I don't see how no gears could result in a massive oil spill. It happens in 1,2 and reverse.
Tried holding brake with left foot and hit accelarator with right but it still stalls.
RAC couldn't fix so it was taken to the Leeds Toyota dealer on Saturday on a breakdown truck.
No news from them yet.
Car was registered on 1st March 03 and has only done 4900 miles.

Got in the care today and the gear stick felt really light as if it had been pulled out of the socket, it will move only forwards and backwards (not clicking into any gears) but really lightly. I know nothing about cars really but my first thought is the gear gable???
